I couldn’t pass on 'I Make My Own Fun' by Hannah Beer—between the title and the cover art, I was sold instantly. What a funny, delightfully weird read about celebrity stardom and fangirl culture!
Marina, a world-famous A-list actress, is fully committed to the bit. Her public image is meticulously curated, her friendships are frenemy-level strategic, and even her fake Hollywood relationship is engineered for maximum clout. She lies, she steals (despite being wildly wealthy), she catfishes for entertainment—and she’s always on the verge of committing a murderous act to get what she wants.
Her true sociopathic nature surfaces when she meets the one person on Earth who refuses to be dazzled by her: a part-time waitress/bartender who could not care less whether Marina lives or dies.
It all makes for a bizarre, captivating weekend read.
