Review of 'Thanksgiving Blessing' by Marta Perry

Our subject of the month was 'Harvest,' and I immediately thought of apple orchards. I chose this book from the 'An Amish Holiday Novel' series because it involves a young widow who owns an orchard and sells her fruit and vegetables at a roadside stand. Becca King is trying to corral two-year-old twins as well as expand her struggling orchard, with the help of her sister, Deborah.

Her parents are a bit skeptical of her ability to accomplish this, and her mother in particular is a worry wart. When Becca accidentally overhears a conversation in which her mother voices her doubts, Becca is very hurt.

Just to add to the complications, an old man who lived next door has died. Very unpopular in the eyes of the entire Amish settlement, he was under the Bann for his drinking. His farm is forsaken and overgrown, and really almost too far gone to remedy. Enter nephew Nathan who has inherited the farm. He has also 'inherited' his teenaged brother, who has been a nuisance and troublemaker since their Dad died and their Mother remarried.

Nathan attempts to purchase Becca's roadside stand, which was lovingly built by Becca's late husband. To make matters worse, vandals have struck, making the whole area nervous and suspicious - especially of strangers. I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting and kept me reading, even though I thought I could predict the ending. Available at Vinton Public Library in large print, and on the Libby app.

Relax and read!

Love,

Connie
