The following local students graduated from Drake University at the end of the fall 2019 semester.Drake University is a midsize, private university in Des Moines, Iowa, enrolling nearly 3,000 undergraduate and more than 1,800 graduate students.

Once in a while I stumble across articles that I find interesting.   This is one of those. With permission from the fine folks in Texas, I am sharing this article about a gentleman that was born in Vinton and later settled in Texas having a rather interesting career.

Students in grades six to 12 can now enter either the Money Smart Kid or Money Smart Teen Essay Contest and compete for the chance to win up to $1,000 to help boost their college savings.

Kirkwood Community College has released its Dean's List for the fall 2019 semester. These students have achieved a 3.3 grade point average or higher after completing 12 or more credit hours at the college.

The Benton County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa (CFNEIA), saw a 17.8 percent rate of return on its endowed assets in 2019, which is the highest return in the last 10 years.

Friday will be a big day for an 8-week-old puppy named Doc. He will fly from Texas to Des Moines to join IOWA Service Dogs. Doc will spend the next two years training to become a service dog for a “warrior”—a first responder or veteran affected by psychiatric or mobility issues due to their service to community or country.
