The Benton County Historical Society would like to say a BIG "Thank You" to the Vinton Cruise Committee for their generous $1,000 donation to the Depot Roof Project. It is greatly appreciated! Our plan is to replace the asphalt shingles with composite or metal that looks like the original French clay tiles that are still on a portion of the north side of the roof. It is imperative the roof gets replaces as soon as possible to stop the damage that leaking is causing on the inside. With the additional help of individual community members and a $10,000 grant from the Benton County Community Foundation we have raised $50,000 of the $90,000 needed. We are also very grateful to Brian Parr and Hugh Mossman for their paintings. Brian has allowed us to sell prints of his Stoney Arch painting and Hugh Mossman prints of his Depot in the Snow painting. Each print is still available for $200. Regions Bank has donated the original 1869 Map of Vinton, for which we are also very thankful. You can get prints of the map for $50. The proceeds from the sale of these items go to the Depot Roof Project. If you are interested in purchasing a picture or the map contact Andrew Elwick at 319-560-9053. Or if you would like to make a tax deductible donation send your check to: BCHS-Roof Project; P. O. Box 22; Vinton, IA 52349. Please write "Depot Roof" on the memo line.
