"To everything there is a season," said Bonnie Sanders, in a message to friends about the difficult decision she and her husband made to stop setting up their large annual light display after this holiday season.
"After much consideration and discussion (even some tears) Dwight & I have decided that 2017 will be the final year for our large Christmas light display," Bonnie says. "We will continue to put up the star and nativity in the future. This was not an easy decision to make but preparing, putting up and maintaining the large light display has gotten to be too much. It consumes a lot of our time and we no longer finish harvest than we begin preparations for the lights. Maybe we are getting slower but we never seem to get everything done."
Verle and Culah Sanders started this light display 70 years ago with a string of lights in honor of the birth of their son. The display has grown over the years.
"For Dwight, this is the only Christmas he has always known so making this decision was not an easy one. I consider it a privilege to have been a part of this family tradition," Bonnie adds. "The lights are shining brightly and we invite you to drive by and enjoy our Christmas gift to you. The lights will be on through December 27."
Hours are the same as always: Dusk until 9:00 weekdays and dusk until 10:00 weekends.
