Rachel Zima, from Burlington, Vermont is serving on team Maple 6 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. She arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start her 10-month service term. Maple 6 is made up of eight people from across the country who will serve together around the Midwest.

Rachel says “After years spent in a classroom discussing ideas and concepts, I knew it was time to gain real world experience - time to put my ideas and skills to work helping others.”

Before Rachel joined the NCCC program she was a recent graduate of UVM, living in Burlington, Vermont where she worked as a Caregiver in an assisted living home.

Maple 6’s second round project is at The Nature Conservancy – Cross Ranch, in Center, North Dakota

Maple 6 will be conducting prescribed burns with The Nature Conservancy –Cross Ranch and Cross Ranch State Park. In addition to burning, the team will be fencing, removing invasive species, trail corridor clearing, painting tables, and cleaning out campgrounds
