Approximately 9,000 Iowa State University students have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the spring semester 2019 Dean's List. Students named to the Dean's List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work.

They are helping with building improvement projects to repair the center due to flood damage sustained by the community following Hurricane Irma through June 23.

The North Eden Willing Workers meeting was called to order at 5:04 PM. Eighteen members were present. Past events discussed were bowling and future events discussed was having a photography workshop, the Iowa State trip, having a float in the boomtown parade, and animal workshop. Giving presentations Morgan Lang did hers on how to ride a unicycle, Sydney Walton on how to make a dump cake, Samantha Walton gave her presentation on giving the heimlich, Isabel Mullinax on how to make a sun catcher and Carli Lang on how to make no bake cookies.

AmeriCorps NCCC Maple 5 Restoring Riverbanks and Trails

By Maple 5 AmeriCorps NCCC Team Maple 5 has been in Montpelier, VT since May 8th where they have being working with the city's Park and Trees Department for their round 2 project. Their service work involves removing non-native species to make room to plant native trees and rebuilding trails to reduce sediment erosion along the riverbanks.

Twenty Iowa long-term care professionals graduated from the Iowa Health Care Association (IHCA) Leadership Academy this week in West Des Moines. The academy is an intensive one-year leadership course for licensed nursing home administrators, assisted living directors, home care agency directors and directors of nursing who work in long-term care, assisted living and home care settings.

By Dylan Collins Cedar 1 is getting things done in Millinocket, Maine with Katahdin Area Trails. The team has been serving with this organization since May 6 where they have been helping build mountain bike trails around the New England Outdoor Center. The team has been working very hard with Katahdin Area Trails to build bike trails with the intention of bringing more tourism to the area and thus revitalizing the Katahdin area's economy.

AmeriCorps NCCC Cedar 5 Helps to Enrich Ft. Yates Community

By Javier Rocha AmeriCorps NCCC team Cedar 5 continues to serve with Sioux County Extension in Ft. Yates, N.D. They have been helping with providing access to fresh foods within the extreme food desert of the Standing Rock Reservation. The team has been busy constructing, renovating and planting community gardens since their arrival on May 8.

By Nicholas Ku AmeriCorps NCCC team Maple 6 is serving at various preserves with the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation (JDCF) planting trees, removing invasive species, and renovating work sheds. The majority of their service work has occurred at Horseshoe Mound in Galena, Illinois where the team is helping to restore the native Oak Savannah to its original population.

Iowa State University's largest-ever graduating class (5,248) received degrees during four spring commencement ceremonies May 9 and 11. Iowa State awarded 4,439 undergraduate degrees, 527 master's degrees, 132 doctor of philosophy degrees and 150 veterinary medicine degrees.Robert Easter, president emeritus and professor emeritus of animal science at the University of Illinois; and Simon Estes, Iowa State's F.

By Sara Monks Maple 2 is currently serving at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Paradise Michigan maintaining and rerouting the 4.5-mile long River Trail for future visitors of the park. Their main goal is to improve access on the trail connecting the Upper and Lower Falls at the park. By creating new trails and reestablishing other parts of the existing trails, the AmeriCorps NCCC team is helping local residents and tourists gain access to more sections of the park and a better appreciation for the natural environment, especially the falls thems...
