Fall 2019 University of Dubuque Dean’s List

The University of Dubuque congratulates the following students on being appointed to the Fall Semester 2019 Academic Dean's List.To be named to the dean's list, a student must earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for that semester.The University of Dubuque is a private university offering undergraduate, graduate, and theological seminary degrees as well as other educational opportunities with the intention of educating and forming the whole person.

Local Students Graduate from Drake University

The following local students graduated from Drake University at the end of the fall 2019 semester.Drake University is a midsize, private university in Des Moines, Iowa, enrolling nearly 3,000 undergraduate and more than 1,800 graduate students. Students choose from over 70 majors, minors, and concentrations and 20 graduate degrees offered through six colleges and schools.

Students in grades six to 12 can now enter either the Money Smart Kid or Money Smart Teen Essay Contest and compete for the chance to win up to $1,000 to help boost their college savings. The statewide essay contests are both sponsored by the Iowa Bankers Association in partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

Mount Mercy University students named to Fall 2019 Dean's List

Coach Brian Sheston's Vinton-Shellsburg wrestlers put on a solid performance Saturday at the North Tama Invitational.In all the Vikings crowned a pair of champions, two-more runners-up and added a third place finish while placing in the other weights they entered. Sophomore Brady Ortner copped the 132-pound title with five falls, capping his day off by pinning Sam Hackett of Waterloo Columbus in 5:48.

New Pup in Training to Join IOWA Service Dogs

Friday will be a big day for an 8-week-old puppy named Doc. He will fly from Texas to Des Moines to join IOWA Service Dogs. Doc will spend the next two years training to become a service dog for a “warrior”—a first responder or veteran affected by psychiatric or mobility issues due to their service to community or country.
