Summer Library Challenge
As Library Staff enter the second month of the Library's summer programming called Level Up at Your Library, please drop by the Library to register, as this year's program is open to all ages. We have a wonderful collection of prizes donated by community sponsors: The Old Stone Bistro, Tootsie's, Cedar Valley Bank & Trust, the State Library of Iowa, the City of La Porte City, Petals of Hope by Patty, A Cut on Main, and more. The Library also has four tickets to see an Iowa Cubs game!
Remember, this year's reading challenge invites you to do more than just read. You can watch movies, attend Library programs, read periodicals, play games, and more. You set your own challenge. When you finish a log, return it to the Library for three base prizes and a raffle ticket. Logs are due by August 2nd to be entered into the raffle drawings. Prizes will be drawn on August 2nd.
Remember to visit the Library for a free meal for all kids, from birth through 17. We have a limited selection of prepackaged lunch items thanks to the support of over a dozen community sponsors, including LPC Care Initiatives, LPC Insurance Agency, LPC Chamber of Commerce, LPC Police Department, LPC Woman's Club, LPC Lions Club, FFA Historical & Ag Museum, Fischels Commercial & Residential, Cedar Valley Bank & Trust, Hager Insurance, Hoppy's Primitive & Proper, and Carney, Alexander, Marold, & Co.
Through your generosity, we have raised over $2,000 for the Lunch with the Library Program, and we have a rough cash value of $2,500 for all the summer reading challenge prizes. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again for your continued support of the La Porte City Public Library!
Community Survey
As we prepare for our renovation this October, Library Staff invite you to participate in one final Community Survey, which is included in this newsletter. We would like your input regarding future purchases for the Library's new spaces, especially Studio equipment. Please complete the survey, cut it out, and return it to the Library by August 13. The survey is also available in the Library.
The bulk of this survey will ask you key questions about equipment use, space use, and collection needs. Please share as much information as possible, as this survey will guide our purchase of equipment using funds from local and state grants. The survey will also guide future use of our operational budget, which is funded with La Porte City tax appropriations and Black Hawk County tax appropriations. Should you have questions about funding, please ask Library Staff.
If you are interested in learning more about the renovation plan, please visit the Library's website or attend an Open House discussion on July 1 at 6 pm or August 20 at 6 pm. You are welcome to attend both sessions as each session with have slightly different information.
Community-wide Logo Contest
There's still time to submit to the logo contest. Everyone of any age is welcome to contribute their creative vision for the future of the Library. This initiative not only fosters community pride but also ensures that the renovated Library identity is one we help shape together.
As we look ahead, the La Porte City Public Library remains committed to its mission of "Challenging our community to reach, explore, and transform." With deep respect for our history and enthusiasm for our future, we seek to challenge ourselves and encourage you to think critically, embrace innovation, ensure our actions are just, and work toward a sustainable future.
To this end, you are invited to create a unique logo that incorporates the Library's new name and reflects the spirit of the Library as a civic asset for the city. The logo should include a mix of our three colors: red (#6d0020), blue (#001738), and green (#637c6b). The logo should include our two fonts (Lexend and Merriweather), and the logo should be in the shape of a circle or fit inside a circle.
More details, including the submission form, can be found at the Library and on the website. Simply scan the QR code on this paper or visit our website at www.lpcpubliclibrary.org.
The Library is accepting submissions from now through Sunday, July 20. You will be invited to select a potential logo from July 21 through August 6. Based on your feedback, the Board of Trustees will vote to adopt the final logo, which will be immediately incorporated into the Library's marketing materials. Logos not selected will still be displayed in the Library wherever possible.
