Brittanee Roland, from Baltimore, Ma., is a member of Maple 4 in NCCC’s Class 19. She arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start her 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Maple 4 is made up of nine people from across the country, and they are serving together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region throughout their term.
“Helping others and learning new things influenced me to want to participate in this once in a lifetime experience,” Brittanee said, when asked why she joined NCCC. “I know what I experience will stay with me throughout my life, allowing me to build knowledge and to one day be able to pass on my experiences.”
Brittanee brings several skills with her to NCCC, which help her be successful throughout her term with the program. She has been certified as a medical assistant, EKG technician, phlebotomy technician, patient care technician, and medical laboratory assistant. She is also qualified in CPR and first aid care.
Prior to joining NCCC, Brittanee attended Blue Ridge Job Corps, graduating in 2012 with her credentials as a medical assistant. After finishing NCCC, she hopes to attend college to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
Maple 4 is currently serving from September 3 to 26 with Roy Lake State Park in Lake City, S.D. The team is repairing and clearing horse trails in Sica Hollow State Park, mainly through the installation of water bars. By doing this, they assist in making the 10-15 miles of horse trail safer and more user friendly.
