Local Resident Makes Trip and Answers,

Area Resident Bill Keller makes trip to Haiti with Wings of Hope (4th fromthe left) “So how are things in Haiti?”  It’s I question I get asked frequently from friends familiar with my trips there.  The questions are heart felt and filled with genuine concern for my friends there.  It’s also a complicated question.  Valerie has asked me to write this story a number of times since the January earthquake.

Sue Gates once sat on a roof to read a book, and is married to a gardener who pleads with her not to cook vegetables. She's also one of the newest members of the Vinton-Shellsburg School Board. We just had to ask.... V-S School Board member Megan Rickels

Megan Rickels has saved a statue of the Virgin Mary from a defiling, X-rayed an arm and a hand that were not attached to each other, and has been a member of a book club that has met monthly for eight years. She also finds time in her busy schedule as a mom with children ranging in grade level from Kindergarten to college freshman to serve on the Vinton-Shellsburg School Board, which (she may argue) is a mitigating factor in her propensity for attracting traffic citations.

Twice each year, in the spring and the fall, Jeff Geiger holds a consignment auction at his property just north of Highway 150 on 24th Avenue Drive. This year’s spring auction also included auctioneers John Lehman and brothers Kenny and Andy Hoge of Coggon.

We just had to ask...ourselves

We just had to ask….………….ourselves… Vinton Today has been asking some silly questions of area people. So we thought it only fair that we answer them ourself.     Q. Your oddest cooking idiosyncrasy? A. Orange juice. I mix it with ice cream, and also use it when I cook liver. Really. That’s one dish the kids never ask me to cook.
