George Clooney two weeks in a row!
The Palace opens with “Fantastic Mr. Fox” on Sunday, March 21 through aThursday, March 25, showing every evening at 7 p.m., and Monday at 2 p.m. This animated adaptation of the Roald Dahl (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “James and the Giant Peach”) story is rated PG for action, smoking and slang humor, and runs 88 minutes.
With the recent surge in CGI animation technology, director Wes Anderson takes us back with his use of stop action, the oldest animation style. It will be interesting to see reactions to this movie from both kids and adults. To me, the preview looks artistic and fun, but I’ve heard several patrons questioning whether they’ll like it.
For $2 it’s worth a shot! This movie was nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score. The voice-overs are stacked with talent – George Clooney in the title role, Meryl Streep as Mrs. Fox, as well as Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe and Owen Wilson.
Be sure to catch ACT I’s production of “The Miser” on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon, and return to place your seat savers for the short run of “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”
AVATAR…has been POSTPONED, AGAIN! Sorry, folks. What can I tell you – 20th Century Fox knows a good thing when it’s filling its pockets. Until Fox drops the price on this film, the Palace Theatre can’t afford to bring it in at $2 a ticket.
I’ve heard from many of you who’ve already caught the blue aliens in 3-D – young and old, even those originally skeptical about the latest and greatest in digital technology are raving. Stay tuned – we are very close to a major cinema upgrade in Vinton!
As a consolation prize, Frank the booker did manage to work some major magic with Disney Studios – we will be getting “How to Train Your Dragon” on it’s national opening date, in place of “Avatar” next week.
