The Palace will remain closed for movies through Saturday, March 2.
ACT I Assistant Director Doug Martens raised the silver screen last Monday for dress and tech rehearsals in preparation for the four-day run of “The Drowsy Chaperone,” Thursday, February 28 through Sunday, March 3. Patrons of all ages may look forward to this light-hearted musical on the Palace stage.
Director Steve Arnold and the cast and crew of “The Drowsy Chaperone” have been busy fine-tuning and polishing the show. This production, the latest from Benton County’s own community theatre troupe, promises audience members a rousing good time!
Tickets for the show may be purchased at www.act1.org or 319/214-0096.
Opening Sunday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7 at 7 pm, and Monday, March 4 at 2 pm is the award-winning “Les Miserables.”
“Les Mis” is a musical based on the novel of the same name by French poet and playwright Victor Hugo. Set in early 19th-century France, it is the story of Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), a French peasant, and his quest for redemption after serving nineteen years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread for his starving sister's child.
Valjean decides to break his parole and start a new life, but he is relentlessly pursued by a police inspector named Javert (Russell Crowe). Along the way, Valjean and a slew of characters, including factory worker Fantine (Anne Hathaway) and daughter Cosette (Amanda Seyfried), are swept into the French Revolution, where a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade.
“Les Mis” was nominated for and won several Oscars, including a Best Supporting Actress award for Anne Hathaway. The film won Best Picture at the Golden Globes, as well as Best Actor for Hugh Jackman, and Best Supporting Actress for Anne Hathaway.
Two musicals this week! When it rains, it pours (or should I say SNOWS?) at the Palace!
