The Palace opens with a three-day run of “Gangster Squad” before being closed Monday through Wednesday for rehearsals of ACT I’s “Drowsy Chaperone.”
“Gangster Squad” plays Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, February 22 -24 at 7 pm only. Rated R for strong violence and language, this 1940s mob film runs 110 minutes, and features an all-star cast.
Sean Penn is menacing as the ruthless mob boss, playing opposite Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling on the side of the law. Emma Stone is Grace Faraday, the dazzling lady in red.
DROWSY CHAPERONE
Following the dark and moody “Gangster Squad,” you’ll be ready for this light-hearted dose of musical comedy! Director Steve Arnold and the cast and crew of “Drowsy Chaperone” are busy this week finalizing set, costumes, and sound and light cues. This production, the latest from ACT I of Benton County, promises audience members a rousing good time!
Tickets for the show may be purchased at www.act1.org or 319/214-0096.
VSHS SPEECH
The VSHS Speech Department will again host the state individual contest on Saturday, March 9. With 25 rooms filled with dramatic and comedic acting and readings, musical theatre, improv, storytelling, after dinner speeches and more, speech coaches Le Cox, Eric Upmeyer, and myself are in need of your help to monitor those centers.
To volunteer, contact Upmeyer at the school at 319-436-4728, or via email: eric.upmeyer@vscsd.org.
MARCH
The Palace will be closed March 1 & 2 for ACT I, but will follow that with a short run of "Les Miserables." Remaining March titles include "Safe Haven," "Identity Theft," and "Jack the Giant Slayer."
