If you haven’t had a chance to check out our new seats, hope you find time for “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.”

Showing Friday, October 12 through Thursday, October 19 at 7 p.m. every night, and Monday, October 15 at 2 p.m., “Timothy Green” is rated PG and runs 104 minutes. According to my mom, you’ll want to see it with the whole family. “They just don’t make movies like this anymore.”

Roger Ebert also gives this beautiful movie his full four-star endorsement:

“The Odd Life of Timothy Green," a warm and lovely fantasy, is the kind of full-bodied family film being pushed aside in favor of franchises and slam-bang confusion. On a picture-postcard farm in the middle of endlessly rolling hills where it is always Indian Summer, a lovable boy comes into the life of a childless couple, and brings along great joy and wisdom.”

MORE CUSH FOR YOUR TUSH

Volunteers and staff were thrilled to be back last week. The new seats are receiving rave reviews. Thanks so much to all who made our latest Palace transformation possible, including many, many generous donors!

Gerald and I, and the Palace Board of Trustees also wish to express our appreciation to those local artisans who generously gave of their time and talent – the Palace staff special maintenance and heavy lifting crew – especially Allan Merchant, Mert Alpers, Tony Bopp, Ashley Hesson, Grant Sagan and Will Hancock; Dave Morrow and Mike Morrow – balcony finish work; Rich Hainstock and Keith Bonar – balcony reconstruction; Mike Barnes and Barnes Furniture – balcony carpet and main floor regluing; Mark Hamling and Ideal Industries – balcony foot rests and new middle railing on lobby stairs (coming soon!); Scott and Beau at Tharp Design – scaffolding and new signage; and our local moving company – the VSHS Band and Football programs!

Another note of interest: three companies from outside of Vinton participated in some way with the seat installation – Sonic Equipment, Artistic Concrete and Service Master 380. Personel from each of these organizations mentioned several times that they just could not believe our theatre – such a treasure! I heard complimentary remarks over and over and over again – both about the facility and the local people they encountered throughout their short time in Vinton.

Claudio, our seat installer, has already “liked” us on Facebook. Claudio an invaluable help to us when things went wrong with the first set of seats, rearranging his schedule to come back and personally re-measuring and redesigning the seat layout. When he finished the job that Saturday, after working into the night on Friday, I mentioned to Gerald that I felt sad we’d probably never see him again. I may have been wrong!

We have so much to be proud of in Vinton, IA! Come celebrate at the movies!
