After a successful ACT I run, we’re back to our full movie schedule with “The Back-Up Plan,” playing Friday, May 28 through Thursday, June 3 at 7 p.m. every night and Monday, May 31 at 2 p.m.

Jennifer Lopez is Zoe, a woman who meets the man of her dreams on the same day she is artificially inseminated. Hmm. Alex O’Loughlin is Stan, that man.

I’ve not heard of Alex O’Loughlin, but he’s noticeably great looking on the movie poster, and several people have asked about him at the theatre. So, I thought I’d better look him up.

First of all, he’s Australian, which is definitely a plus. He has no big role movie credits to his name, but has played a serial killer on “Criminal Minds,” acted in several episodes of “The Shield,” and was a kissing couple extra in the movie, “The Holiday.”

“The Back-Up Plan” is rated PG-13 and is definitely one of those PG-13 films I don’t let my younger kids watch. The themes throughout are all sex, sex and more sex. This movie runs 108 minutes.

DIGITAL CINEMA

We passed the 50K mark last week! Wow! But, we’re not there yet. If you haven’t already done so, please send your donation asap. You may also go to the Digital Cinema page on our website, www.vintonpalace.org.

WAYS TO DONATE

POSTERS Several parents, kids, even grandparents have made contributions of $100 to receive one of 10 years worth of movie posters we’ve been saving at the theatre. The last two posters to go – Johnny Depp’s “Alice in Wonderland” and “Eclipse.” I know, “Eclipse” hasn’t been released yet, but one of our patrons paid in advance to reserve the latest in the Twilight series! Girls, we still have the first two!

IN MEMORIAM Make your donation in memory of a deceased loved one.

BUSINESS ADVERTISING Every donation of $100 or more will be listed on a preshow screen for one year! Those businesses donating $1,000 or more will take part in our Spotlight video that will play at 7 p.m. before every 3D movie for one year!

TELL YOUR FAR-AWAY FRIENDS AND FAMILY We recently received a very generous donation from a Garrison native who now lives in Alexandria, VA. Following the school consolidation in the 1970s, she attended junior high and high school in Vinton, held several part time jobs in town, and after her high school graduation spent four years with the Livewire. She fondly recalls seeing movies at the Palace Theatre before it closed.

Almost all of my family remain in the Vinton/Garrison area and many friends are still there, so when I come home for a visit it's non-stop fun. My husband is from England and when he first came to Vinton a few years ago he said it perfectly fit his image of small town America--he loves it. We hope to catch a movie next time we're in town for a visit--probably in July. I've heard so many positive comments about the Palace--the folks in the area seem to really appreciate what you and Gerald have been able to do. (My husband) and I are really happy to help you take the movie-watching experience to the next level.

Have I mentioned how much fun it is to get the mail these days?!
