“HUGO” in fabulous RealD 3D rings in the New Year at the Palace this week, showing Friday, December 30 through Thursday, January 5 at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Monday, December 31 and January 2 at 2 p.m.
Miracle of miracles – Roger Ebert, who gave this film four out of four stars, actually praises the director’s use of 3D in the movie.
“Scorsese uses 3D here as it should be used, not as a gimmick but as an enhancement of the total effect.”
That’s major, folks! Ebert routinely bashes 3D and advises patrons to see movies in 2D instead. Unfortunately, you don’t have that option at our one screen venue, so I’m thrilled that technology is catching up to critical standards.
Martin Scorsese's adaptation of Brian Selznick's award-winning novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret features Asa Butterfield as an orphan boy who lives in a Parisian train station. When sent to live with an unfit uncle after his father's death in a fire, Hugo learns how to wind the imposing clocks that run throughout the station. His uncle disappears one day, and Hugo decides to manage the clocks on his own, hoping nobody will learn that he’s living in the station.
This delightful family adventure is perfect for all but our youngest patrons. It runs just over 2 hours and is rated PG for mild action peril and language.
CHAIR CLUB
We’ve recently renewed our efforts to raise money for the Palace Chair Club, with hopes of installing the new seats in the new year.
In November we placed a sample chair in the lobby for patrons to try. Please note that the new seats will be a bit wider than the sample seat, and indeed, seats in the back four rows of the main floor auditorium will be four inches wider than those! We are excited to offer a taller, more ample rocker style chair that we think will complete your movie-going experience, making the Palace your “home theatre” destination.
In addition to the new seats, we are looking at exciting balcony make‐over options we hope to unveil early next year, including plush VIP seating. We expect our VIP sample seat to arrive soon, so be sure to check it out.
Contribution forms are available in the lobby of the theatre. Thanks for remembering the Palace Chair Club fund in your year-end giving.
JANUARY
The January schedule is here! You can pick up hard copies at the Palace! Looking forward to sequels of
“Sherlock Holmes” “Alvin and the Chipmunks” “Mission Impossible” and one new film – “We Bought a Zoo”
