Channing Tatum stars as John Tyree, a handsome Army Special Forces specialist home on two weeks' leave. Amanda Seyfried plays Savannah, a lovely young woman whose purse falls off a pier. John dives in, retrieves it, and they fall deeply in love as only Nicholas Sparks can tell it. No, this is not the plot from “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” Sorry, kids! That popular pre-teen movie has been postponed again, indefinitely. Instead, the Palace opens with “Dear John,” showing Friday, April 30 through Thursday, May 6 at 7 p.m. nightly, and Monday, May 3 at 2 p.m. This movie is rated PG-13 for some sensuality and violence, and runs 105 minutes. This week’s special - free medium drink for all husbands in attendance. Relax, Gerald, it’s a chick flick! Before I could even get the May calendar printed and posted online and at the theatre, Frank the Booker called and I had to recycle and start over. Now scheduled for May is “Dear John,” “The Last Song” with Miley Cyrus, screenplay by Nicholas Sparks (he’s writing that book now), “Date Night” with Steve Carell and Tina Fey, “Clash of the Titans,” and “The Back-up Plan.” Keep your fingers crossed and watch the website. When I was working out the details of this latest print shortage/movie swap with Frank, he mentioned we may end up substituting “Wimpy Kid” for “Date Night” mid-May, as 35 mm prints are really limited for that show, as well. The good news is that when I told him we should have our new digital cinema in place yet this summer, he replied, "Oh, good. We have no trouble getting digital dates. It will make life easier for both of us." Information about our Digital Cinema campaign is available on our website at www.vintonpalace.org and at the theatre. Please give generously. I hate it when we disappoint the kids!
