Entertainment : ACT I to hold Auditions for “Come From Away”

ACT I of Benton County is pleased to announce that we will be holding auditions for our upcoming musical production of Come From Away.  Auditions will be held on Sunday April 12th at 1PM and Monday April 13th at 6:30 PM.  Callbacks will be held on Tuesday April 14th at 6:30 PM if needed.  Auditions and callbacks will be held at the Palace Theatre at 210 W 4th St in Vinton.  Those auditioning only need to attend the Sunday or Monday session, all individuals auditioning must be 17 or older.

Come From Away is a heartfelt musical based on true events following the September 11 attacks. When the U.S. airspace is suddenly closed, thousands of airline passengers are diverted to the small town of Gander, Newfoundland. Stranded far from home, the “come from aways” are welcomed by the local residents, who open their homes and hearts. As fear and uncertainty give way to compassion and connection, the story highlights the extraordinary kindness people can show one another in times of crisis.

Come From Away utilizes a cast of (12) people.  All cast members play multiple roles, both Newfoundlanders and “Come From Aways”, main roles include:

●      Claude – The thoughtful and steady mayor of Gander who works tirelessly to coordinate the town’s response and support thousands of stranded passengers

●      Bonnie – A caring SPCA worker who takes responsibility for the animals stuck on the planes, showing quiet compassion and determination

●      Beulah – A warm, welcoming teacher and community leader who helps organize resources and provides comfort to the “plane people”

●      Hannah – A mother from New York desperately trying to reach her son, a firefighter, and clinging to hope amid uncertainty

●      Diane – A practical, recently divorced passenger who unexpectedly finds connection and romance during the crisis

●      Janice – A shy, inexperienced local reporter who grows in confidence as she covers an overwhelming, historic event

●      Bob – A hardened New Yorker who struggles with fear and frustration, reflecting the shock felt by many passengers

●      Kevin T. – A tense and initially difficult passenger whose anger masks fear, but who gradually softens through the kindness around him

●      Kevin J. – Kevin T.’s supportive partner, empathetic and open-hearted, helping to ground those around him

●      Nick – A kind and optimistic British passenger who forms a close bond with Diane and represents generosity of spirit

●      Oz – A dedicated local police officer helping manage logistics, safety, and communication during the crisis

●      Beverley – The first female American Airlines captain, a confident and reassuring leader who keeps her passengers calm and inspired

Performance dates for Come From Away are scheduled for September 10th, 11th, and 12th at 7PM, and September 12th and 13th at 2PM at the Palace Theatre in Vinton.
