“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules” plays the Palace Friday, April 29 through Thursday, May 5 at 7 p.m. nightly, and Saturday and Monday, April 30 and May 2 at 2 p.m.

Based on another entry from the popular series of “Wimpy Kid” books by Jeff Kinney, almost a year to the date after first movie, “Rodrick Rules” picks up the story as Greg (Zachary Gordon) and his best buddy, the cheerfully chubby Rowley (Robert Capron) enter the seventh grade, grateful they’re no longer sixth graders – the bottom rung of the middle-school ladder.

This movie runs 95 minutes and is rated PG for mild rude behavior and mischief.

My fourth grader, Gracie, recommends both the books and the first movie.  She can’t wait to see the second movie with her friends on Friday night.  When asked why she liked the series so much, she replied,

“Well, it’s about some kids and what happens to them at school.  There are lots of funny stories and jokes.”

I have not watched the first movie, but can vouch for Gracie – she giggled a lot!

What comes to mind when I think of the “Wimpy Kid” series is how we were unable to get that first film last spring, due to a lack of available 35 mm prints.  Last month at CinemaCom at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, the largest gathering of movie theatre owners in the world, the film industry announced the end of 35 mm prints by 2013.

The Palace Theatre is thrilled to be thriving on the forefront of the digital cinema movement – thanks to our generous patrons, local businesses and civic groups!
