Jack Black in 3D!  I’m not sure I’m ready for it!!

However, ready or not – it’s here!  “Gulliver’s Travels” in 3D plays the Palace Friday, February 18 through Thursday, February 24 at 7 pm nightly, and Monday, February 21 at 2 p.m.

Jack Black towers over the Lilliputians as Lemuel Gulliver. Amanda Peet plays the boss Gulliver has a crush on in the newsroom where he works.  This delightful action-adventure is rated PG-13 for harmlessly naughty Jack Black-style themes and mild language. 

“Gulliver’s Travels” runs just 87 minutes – even our wiggliest patrons should make it through, with a treat tray and one potty break, of course.

Our March schedule arrived and I had to send it back.  Frank noted the movies I asked for but not our ACT I closure dates.  (ACT I presents Picnic – get your tickets now!)

Frank had to do a bit of movie studio schmoozing, but here it is, with two of the three Oscar picks I asked for -  “The King’s Speech,” “Just Go With It,” “Black Swan,” and “Gnomeo and Juliet.”

VINTON-SHELLSBURG SPEECH

Congrats to our Legally Blonde musical theatre group – Emma Horst, Emma Lippmann, Tess Noeller, Liz Moen, Maddy Springer and Nikki Lippman – and Jekyll and Hyde sole mimer, Alex Springer.  These kids were all selected to perform at All-State on Saturday, February 19.

And speaking of speech – WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Vinton-Shellsburg High School Speech Department will once again host the Iowa High School Speech Association’s State Individual Events Contest on Saturday, March 12.  Approximately 1,200 performers from southeast Iowa will participate in this event.  Performances in 14 different events and multiple rooms at both the high school and middle school will call for many volunteers to help as timers, room chairs and greeters.  Help is needed in morning or afternoon sessions – any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.  Please contact Eric Upmeyer (436-4728 x 9334) eupmeyer@vinton-shellsburg.k12.ia.us or Marcy Horst (472-5518) marcy@horstbt.com if you can volunteer your time.  Thank you!
