“….the best rendition of 3D I've seen in one of these action spectaculars.” – Roger Ebert

Third in the C.S. Lewis film adaption series, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” in RealD 3D plays the Palace this week, Friday, February 4 through Thursday, February 10 at 7 p.m. nightly, and Monday, February 7 at 2 p.m.

Edmund, Lucy, Caspian, the White Witch, and Aslan – those well-loved characters – return for a new adventure aboard the painting of ship at sea.  Rated PG for some frightening images and fantasy violence, this film will delight all but our youngest patrons.

FURTHER COMMENTARY ON TRUE GRIT FROM OUR FAITHFUL PATRONS

In response to a question I read (in your column) about the funny guy who makes animal sounds, yes, it was in the original movie in '69!  The guy in that one crowed like a rooster instead of talking, (fittingly enough, considering the main character's nickname), and he was kinda blonde and scrawny looking, if memory serves.  One thing I was fascinated about in this movie, was how much more realistic the one-eyed marshall looked compared to Duke's version.  The make-up people in Hollywood today earn every penny they get for their incredible talents. Cogburn really looked the part of a grizzled old, seedy, down and out lawman!  The film, I thought, was a very good redux of the original! ~PS

Another Palace regular stopped me Sunday night to let me know he’d watched both films and read the book. Charles Portis authored the novel, “True Grit,” published in 1968.  According to this movie-goer, both films are pretty faithful to the original story, and the animal speaking characters are in all three.

I am now on a mission to find a copy of the book and watch the 1969 movie.  The John Wayne film was shown on AMC over the weekend several times. Alas, in an effort to economize, several months ago Gerald cut our DISH package to the bare bones, which does not include AMC.  He almost got away with it, as none of us noticed until I wanted to record “True Grit” the other night.

To all those who have inquired about “The King’s Speech” – I’ve asked Frank to put it on our schedule in March for Oscar Month.

Keep the emails and comments coming, and thanks for supporting the Palace!
