Entertainment : Picnic Cast Is Announced

The cast of ACT 1's 'Picnic' includes veterans and some new faces.

ACT I is pleased to announce the cast for Picnic, to premier March 11 at the Palace Theatre in Vinton.

Director Anthony Bopp announced the following casting results from recent auditions:

Helen Potts: Sue Gates
Hal Carter: Kyle Webb
Millie Owens: Katie Hancock
Bomber: Trent McAtee
Madge Owens: Mandy Peterson
Flo Owens: Caroline Dick
Rosemary Sydney: Cathi Calderwood
Alan Seymour: Jeffery Seitz
Irma Kronkite: Bunny Fritch
Christine Schoenwalder: Rachel Kramer
Howard Bevans: Rich Hainstock

This is the first ACT I appearance by Caroline Dick and Kyle Webb, and the first show in 5 years for Mandy Peterson who previously appeared in The Greatest Christmas Pageant Ever.

'Picnic,' written by William Inge (the author of the successful ACT I production 'Bus Stop' staged last May at the Palace Theatre), is a drama, sometimes humorous and occasionally intense. It is an engaging character study and presents enormous opportunities for the actors to portray complex, three-dimensional characters with motivations that are often hidden from the other characters but which must be communicated to the audience.

The movie adaptation of Picnic received two Academy Awards in 1955, and the Broadway production marked Paul Newman's Broadway debut. It has wide appeal both for its superficial charms and darker themes.
