Mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 17 to attend Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School music performances at 6:30 and 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The Jazz Band will perform at 6:30. Their program includes favorites, “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey and “Oye Como Va” by Santana. The middle school students recently performed at the NEIBA Jazz Band Festival and were awarded a division I rating. Twenty students, grades 6-8, participate under the direction of Mrs. Jodi Bierschenk.

At 7:00, the 7th & 8th Grade Choirs will present “ICONIC”, an evening of memorable music. Choir selections will highlight favorites, “Hakuna Matata,” “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “Dust in the Wind,” “Seize the Day,” “Tribute to Queen” and “Let it Go”.

Small groups will present selections first performed by the Beatles, American Authors, Duke Ellington and Little Mix as well as iconic classics like “Pink Panther” by Henry Mancini and “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.

The 35 member Show Choir will be a featured group this evening, having spent the last two months rehearsing before school two or three times a week. Show songs are “Bandstand Boogie,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “At the Hop” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.” The group has worked diligently to learn choreography with local dance educator, Joan Cooling Noeller.

The students will be wearing their new choir t-shirts, designed by eighth grade students and Tharp design. There is a blue heart on each sleeve in memory of Emma, who was a special part of our VSMS Choirs.

The public is invited to this concert! The auditorium will open for seating at 6:05. A freewill ticket donation may be made at the door. Donations will also be accepted to share with the Redlinger family.
