We say goodbye to 3D and welcome a whole new dimension with “Inception,” playing the Palace Friday, August 20 through Thursday, August 26 at 7 p.m. nightly, and Monday, August 23 at 2 p.m.

Leonardo DiCaprio invades dreams, stealing secrets and planting new ones in this sci fi thriller rated PG-13. Leo, as Cobb, solicits help from architect wunderkind, Ariadne, played by Ellen Page. Also starring are Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, Tom Berenger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Marion Cotillard.

“Inception” runs 148 minutes and is fraught with violence, gore and bad language. My 19-year-old son Patrick thought this movie was amazing. He also mentioned that it was very confusing. “I totally wanna see it again, because I know I didn’t get everything.”

According to film critic Roger Ebert, “’Inception’ does a difficult thing. It is wholly original, cut from new cloth, and yet structured with action movie basics so it feels like it makes more sense than (quite possibly) it does. “ I think that means both Patrick and Roger thought it was amazing and confusing. Both guys definitely gave it two thumbs up.

3D SMILES

It was fun to bring out the 3D glasses again for “Despicable Me” last week.

Something Gerald and I have both noticed – people like to take photos of themselves, their children and their friends wearing the 3D glasses.

We want your photos for our preshow, so email them to me at managers@vintonpalace.org.

POPCORN SMILES

Another recent observation: Box Office volunteer Dottie Riepe has an excellent view of patrons leaving the concession stand with their treats. According to Dottie, 90% of patrons eat some popcorn with their mouths straight from the bag as they head back to their seats.

Hey, it’s OK – everybody’s doing it – but you may want to think twice before asking someone else to buy your popcorn!?! Just sayin.
