On my desk next to my to-do list is a copy of “Captain America: The First Avenger.” My son came home from college last weekend with his laundry, his bed, and his DVD collection.

I thought you’d wanna watch this before seeing the second one.

Um, does it have Robert Downey Jr. in it?

Patrick is sure the reason I thought “The Avengers” was just OK is that I was only familiar with the back story of “Ironman.” I’m skeptical, but he was right when he said I’d like the last two Star Trek movies, so I guess I’ll give Captain America a try.

And so should you!

Playing the Palace Friday, May 16 through Thursday, May 22 at 7 pm, and Monday, May 19 at 2 pm is “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Chris Evans is Steve Rogers, Captain America, with Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury, and Scarlett Johansson, as Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow. Robert Redford also lends star power as Alexander Pierce, an executive of sorts at S.H.I.E.L.D.

(23-year-old Patrick doesn’t know Robert Redford!?!?! Whaaaat? We’ll be watching Butch and Sundance next.)

S.H.I.E.L.D. is under attack, and it looks as if Nick Fury is responsible. Pierce calls out all available firepower to bring him down. His greatest weapon is The Winter Soldier, a Russian assassin with a metal arm and an intensity matched only by another of his targets, Captain America.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is a very good movie, the rare film in this genre that serves as both entry point and continuation. For a change, you can walk in cold and you won't be too lost. The actors inject some welcome, unexpected emotion into their characters.” ~Odie Henderson, www.rogerebert.com

“Captain America” is rated PG-13 for gunplay and action violence and runs two hours and 16 minutes.

Nicer weather beckons and hectic spring school schedules demand your attention, but the volunteers and staff have missed you at the theatre! We look forward to “Captain America” kicking off a busy summer blockbuster season.
