“Divergent” plays the Palace Friday, April 18 through Thursday, April 24 at 7 pm, and Monday, April 21 at 2 pm.
The “Divergent” book trilogy by Veronica Roth is the latest adolescent/young adult sensation, with a storyline similar to that of “The Hunger Games” series. "Divergent" takes place in a rigidly structured, dystopian future where one extraordinary girl will serve either as its destroyer or its savior. Sound familiar? It’s all about soul searching and finding the real you.
I have not read the book series, but some of my kids have, and of course, had to see the movie opening weekend. They were thrilled with it, very watchable and engaging. Most important, “Divergent” the movie adaptation stays true to the novel’s basic plot, leaving out nothing my teens deemed crucial to the story.
This first movie, sure to be followed by “Insurgent” and “Allegiant,” a sci-fi thriller fraught with action and romance, is rated PG-13 and runs fairly long, 143 minutes.
