The 3D filter will be pushed aside this week (and for the next few weeks) when the Palace brings you “The Karate Kid,” rated PG. This critic-approved remake of the 1984 original will play Friday, July 23 through Thursday, July 29 at 7 p.m. nightly, and Saturday, July 24 and Monday, July 26 at 2 p.m.
I caught Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith on “The View” one morning. The ladies raved about Jackie’s dramatic performance. We’ve all seen Mr. Chan kick and flip his way through oodles of movies, breaking more bones than I knew could be broken, but “The Karate Kid” gives Jackie as Mr.Miyagi a chance to flex his thespian muscles.
Jaden “Raised-by-the-power-of-Will” Smith has already proven he’s a chip off the old block in “Pursuit of Happyness,” and definitely has his dad’s smart mouth. And I mean smart as in intelligent and funny. The kid’s a crack-up, and a darn good kisser, if you can take his word for it.
Anyway, all reports are overwhelmingly positive for the 2D “Karate Kid.” This movie is two hours and ten minutes long, perfect for all but the wiggliest of youngsters.

AUGUST
August brings “Grown Ups” and “Knight and Day” – both 2D films at $2 a ticket at the Palace. We’ll bring out the glasses and the $3 tickets mid-month for “Despicable Me,” and then it’s back to 2D for “Inception” and “SALT.”
