"The Lone Ranger," a thrilling, hilarious action adventure by the creators of “Pirates of the Carribean,” is a retelling of the famed Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) through the eyes of Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp).

This Depp delight plays Friday, August 23 through Thursday, August 29 at 7 pm, and Monday, August 26 at 2 pm. “The Lone Ranger” runs two and a half hours and is rated PG-13.

Due to the rating and long running time, I would not recommend this film for the younger set, but it should be fine for upper elementary students. Kids-in-mind.com gives it a 3-7-3 on the sex-violence-language scale, but I believe the higher violence rating may be attributed to fantastical Western cowboys and outlaws style aggression. Nothing truly scary like we saw in last week’s “WWZ.”

I’ve spoken to several Palace regulars who caught this film at alternative, VERY EXPENSIVE megaplexes when it first came out. They will most certainly be coming back for another in-Depp viewing this week.

“The Lone Ranger” gets high ratings from teens and twenty-somethings, and also from two crazy, old-enough-to-know-better, Johnny Depp-loving, Vinton sisters I know.
