Nestled into a comfortable corner at the end of North 9th Avenue is a quiet little community all its own…CedarView. This tranquil, yet active retirement community lies just off the 4th tee of the Vinton Golf and Country Club, across from River Side Park, near Virginia Gay Hospital.
Retired businessman Gerald Pedersen and his wife, Wineva moved to CedarView nine years ago when Gerald turned 80. CedarView first caught their eye because of its close proximity to Virginia Gay Hospital, and the country club. “You’ve got access to the hospital, the country club, park, recreation center and swimming pool all within three blocks”, Gerald said. The location became even more important to the Pedersens last year when they were involved in a serious car accident. After a month long hospital stay, they were able to return to their own home and continue physical therapy at Virginia Gay Hospital. “Instead of going to a nursing and rehab facility, I was able to come right home. I think it shortened my rehab time because I didn’t have steps to climb, and every unit here is wheelchair accessible, so I didn’t have to worry about all the obstacles most people face when they go home from the hospital”, Wineva added. The Pedersens are now both back on their feet and enjoy a happy, healthy lifestyle. Gerald still goes over to Virginia Gay once a week, but now it’s to drink coffee and hang out with the other men in the CedarView community. Like most couples their age, they head south for the winter. They like the peace of mind that living in CedarView provides. “We have the freedom to come and go as we please, and when we travel, our property is safe and secure. They even water the plants while we’re gone”, Wineva said. Currently, there’s a unit available for sale at CedarView. Gerald and Wineva would encourage you to check it out. “There’s no steps, I’ve got a two car garage, room for my golf cart, access to the course, and I’m on a first name basis with all of my neighbors.” Gerald said. “The last time one of these units came open, three people wanted it.” If you’re interested in living at the CedarView retirement community, you should call CedarView Manager, LaTeresa Music at 472-2625 for more information.
