Vinton welcomed a new business to town. Bowers Best Discount Store is worth a trip if you've never visited one. Adding Vinton to their chain of stores, Bowers opened in Vinton on Leap Day. Hours are limited and the store is closed Monday - Wednesday.The Vinton store has clothing from sizes newborn to plus size, some furniture, bedding, health & beauty and more.

Area hay and forage producers are invited to attend the 37th Annual Eastern Iowa Hay Producers Association (EIHPA) Annual Meeting and Conference on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Buzzy’s in Welton. Produce Safety Alliance courses will be held across the state during Fall 2019 and Winter 2020Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host eleven Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training meetings through March 2020. The training sessions are for fruit and vegetable growers and others interested in learning about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, and Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs).

Stephen Eschenbach, Jim Webster, AgVantage FS Receive Secretary’s Iowa Ag Leader Awards Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig honored three outstanding agriculture leaders today at the Iowa Agribusiness Showcase. Naig presented the Secretary’s Iowa Ag Leader Award for Conservation to AgVantage FS of Waverly, Certified Crop Advisor Stephen Eschenbach of Red Oak and Jim Webster of Dysart.

The Benton County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has named the Schulte Dairy of Norway Price Creek Watershed Cooperator of the Year. The award recognizes farmers in the Price Creek Watershed who have implemented conservation practices that help protect water quality.“Austin Schulte has been partnering with the Price Creek Project since it began and we’re pleased with the work he’s done to improve manure management and to reduce the impacts on those downstream,” said Hank Wehrman of the Benton County Soil and Water Conservation District.
