Due to changes in state law, there are now permitted times and locations for shooting off fireworks within the city limits of Vinton. Residents will not be in violation of the revised fireworks laws (Code of Iowa, Sec. 727.2) if they use their fireworks legally and responsibly during the following times.Permitted Fireworks Times (On Private Property Only) July 3, 2025 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
July 4, 2025 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Residents who choose to set off fireworks shall not use consumer fireworks on any public property including streets, parks, and schools. Residents are only allowed to use consumer fireworks on their own property, or on the property of a person who has consented to the use of consumer fireworks on that property. "Consumer Fireworks" are fireworks described in Chapter 3 of the American Pyrotechnics Association ("APA") Standard 87-1. We urge everyone to be considerate of their neighbors who may be affected by this change. From veterans to people dealing with anxious pets, fireworks may be traumatic for the people around us. If you see prohibited fireworks and wish to report it, please report the violation by calling the Benton County dispatch non-emergency line (319) 472-2337.
---Vinton Ordinance41.14 FIREWORKS.(Code of Iowa, Sec. 727.2)1. Definitions. For purposes of this section:A. "Consumer fireworks" means the following fireworks, as described in Chapter 3 of the American Pyrotechnics Association ("APA") Standard 87-1: (1) First-class consumer fireworks: a. Aerial shell kits and reloadable tubes; b. Chasers; c. Helicopters and aerial spinners; d. Firecrackers; e. Mine and shell devices; f. Missile-type rockets; g. Roman candles; h. Sky rockets and bottle rockets; i. Multiple tube devices under this paragraph which are manufactured in accordance with APA Standard 87-1, Section 3.5.
