The Vinton City Council received a recognition letter from 4th Ward Councilwoman, Bethany Gates. She will be moving away from the area, and her resignation will take effect at the end of April.
Gates was appointed to fill the 4th Ward seat following the sudden passing of Councilman Nathan Hesson in January of 2021. With the blessing of Nathan's wife Ashley, and his family she took the oath of office the following March.
After three years of service on the council, she will be moving out of the area. However, I suspect you might see her in other areas of politics.
Below is the letter that she submitted to the council:
March 28th, 2024
Dear Mayor Maynard,
I regret to inform you that due to my upcoming move out of Vinton's 4th Ward, I am resigning from the Vinton City Council, 4th Ward, effective May 1st, 2024.
It has been a privilege and an honor to represent Vinton's 4th Ward, and to serve alongside such phenomenal city council members. The City of Vinton continues to be in good hands, with a City Administrator and City Clerk who are incredibly knowledgable and competent, department heads who run their departments with skill and expertise, and city employees who do so many things behind the scenes that ensure our infrastructure runs well, and a city council that cares deeply about Vinton's residents and desire to ensure that Vinton continues to be a place where its citizens can thrive.
Thank you, Mayor, Council, and Vinton's 4th Ward for allowing me the opportunity to serve in this capacity.
Sincerely,
Bethany Gates
