Sports Isaac Raue chosen to be a Kid Captain for the Iowa Hawkeyes

It has been announced that Isaac Raue has been chosen to be the Kid Captain for the Iowa Hawkeye game on November 27, at the game against Nebraska.

In 2009, the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital began partnering with the Iowa Hawkeyes, honoring pediatric patients by sharing their stories of resilience.

Isaac is one of those kids who was faced with heartbreaking challenges following an early morning fire in his home on May 11, 2018. The family lived in a home just north of Vinton. The fire spread through the family home, destroying it as well as all that the family cherished. The worst was that their protector, husband and dad Chaucy Raue, Isaac's dad lost his life at the young age of 37. However, he was able to save his wife and three young sons.

Isaac was badly burned with third-degree burns over 25% of his body. He was rushed to the hospital before being airlifted to the Sted Family Children's Hospital in Iowa City. After he was stabilized in the pediatric intensive care unit, he spent two months in the burn unit undergoing skin grafts and other surgeries to help him recover.

Isaac is still receiving care from the hospital. Most recently, last December, he was treated, receiving yet another skin graft.

Today, the family has increased in size. Isaac's mom, found happiness again and remarried. That wasn't all. The family added an adorable baby sister who joins her three big brothers.
