Sports : Kirtz named as Senior Scholastic Winner

The Iowa High School Swim Coaches Association has named its 2022 Boys Academic All-State Team and Senior Scholastic honoree. Carter Kirtz of CPU, who swims for Vinton-Shellsburg, has been named to the team and is the Senior Scholastic winner for the sport of swimming.

This award goes to the top student-athlete in Boys' high school swimming state-wide. To qualify, a person must be nominated by their coach and school administration, qualify for an individual event at state, have a minimum GPA of 3.25 and an ACT of 21. Points are awarded in each category and the 16 highest point-scorers are on the team. Carter had the top score on the team and was thus named the Boys Senior Scholastic recipient for 2022.

Carter is the son of Jon and Kelley Kirtz. He plans to swim collegiately next year and study engineering but has not yet committed to a school.
