The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes finished up the regular season last week and they open post-season play tonight at Independence. Game time will be 7 p.m.

Vikette softball sweeps Trojans, 20-8, 15-7

Tama, IA - The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette softball team (10-21) took on the South Tama County Trojans at South Tama County High School in Tama in a WaMaC West doubleheader. The Vikettes hit three homers in the doubleheader, including a grand slam by sophomore catcher Sophia Kreutner, the Vikettes' first slam since 2005.


Vikettes victorious, narrowly over Warriors

VICTOR - The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity softball team (11-21) took on the HLV Warriors (7-12) at HLV High School in Victor on Tuesday, June 29. The Vikettes won 7-6, but were up 7-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Vikettes will return to Thole Field on Wednesday, June 30 and Thursday, July 1 for back-to-back doubleheaders against the West Delaware Hawks and Wapsie Valley Warriors, before traveling to Mustang Way Park in Independence for the first round of the Regional against the Independence Mustangs.


Vikette softball swept by West Delaware 17-5 (6), 2-1

VINTON - The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity softball team (11-23) took on the West Delaware Hawks (24-8) at Thole Field in an original WaMaC Conference doubleheader. The Hawks jumped on the Vikettes in game one with 13 runs in four innings, but the Vikettes made it interesting with five runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 13-5, but the Hawks in the sixth inning scored four more runs.

In game two, Vikette freshman pitcher Grayce McClintock and the Vikettes virtually shut the Hawks down. The Vikettes took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Hawks scored two runs but the Vikettes had a good turnaround from game one.

Vikettes split with Wapsie Valley

VINTON - The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity softball team (12-24) took on the Wapsie Valley Warriors at Thole Field in Vinton on Thursday, July 1 and lost game one of the doubleheader 6-5 in eight innings, but came back in game two and won 5-4 on walk-off bases loaded walk by Abby Davis.
