VINTON - The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette softball team split with the Maquoketa Cardinals in Maquoketa on Thursday, June 24 to push their record to 8-21 through 29 games. After losing their first four games in a doubleheader against the Mount Vernon Mustangs, the Jesup J-Hawks and the Janesville Wildcats. Then, they split their next four in a doubleheader against the Marion Wolves, Riverside Bulldogs and Springville Orioles. They then defeated the Union Knights 15-5, split with the Independence Mustangs, split at the Cedar Rapids Jefferson tournament and the Vikette Invitational.A tough week then set in for the Vikettes as they went to Zittergruen Field in Van Horne and were swept 11-1, 12-2 by the Benton Bobcats, by the Clear Creek Amana Clippers 10-1, 14-1, back at Thole Field against the Williamsburg Raiders, 8-3, 16-3 and the Solon Spartans 10-0, 5-0.
