Special Olympics IA Mid-Winter Tournament Mar. 11 & 12 in Iowa City & Coralville

~The tournament is open to the public, and admission is free.~  Athletes and Unified partners from across the state will assemble in Iowa City and Coralville on March 11 and 12 to compete in the Special Olympics Iowa Mid-Winter Tournament. The Mid-Winter Tournament will feature over 900 athletes and Unified partners competing in basketball skills, team basketball, cheer and dance, gymnastics, and powerlifting competitions.

Esports Prepare to Kick Off Another Season

The V/S High School Esports team is getting ready for the Spring season which will include Smite and Mario Kart Time Trials! All Smite games will be able to be viewed on Twitch by searching for vprdplay. Regular season games will start on March 24th and will run every Thursday through May 12th. Vikette basketball team finishes 15-9 (7-5 WaMaC West)As Rich Haisman entered his third season as the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette basketball head basketball varsity head coach, the Vikettes had compiled back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2003-04 and 2004-05. In 2019-20 the Vikettes finished 12-11 (7-5) and in 2020-21 they finished 18-5 (9-3) and in 2021-22 they finished 15-9 (7-5).

Iowa High School Sports Network to Broadcast Boys State Basketball Tournament

The Iowa High School Sports Network will broadcast all 28 Boys State Basketball Tournament games from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, March 7-11. Complete broadcast schedule.All games will be streamed for free at IHSSN.com and on the Watch IHSSN App. In addition, the quarterfinals and semifinals will be broadcast on the IHSSN Cable Network and the finals broadcast on the IHSSN Television Network.

Viking basketball finishes 3-19 (2-10 WaMaC West)As Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity head basketball coach Joe Johnson entered his 16th season as Viking varsity head coach the Vikings head lost seven seniors from 2020-21.  They lost most of the scoring from the 2020-21 season.  The Vikings started the season 0-6 and finished the season 3-12.

Vinton Shellsburg Bowlers bring home 3rd and 4th place at State

Vinton-Shellsburg girls finish 4th at State Bowling Tournament, great job ladies! The Vinton-Shellsburg boys and girls bowling teams came in near the top of those competing in the Class 1A State Bowling Tournament.Placing in 3rd place were the Vinton Vikings while the girls brought home 4th place. Congratulations to both teams on such a great representation for Vinton-Shellsburg!

Viking wrestling logs its first ever State champion

Gabe Sanders State Wrestling Champion The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity wrestling team capped off its weekend with its first-ever State wrestling individual champion at the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) State Wrestling Championships on Feb. 19, when senior 152-pounder Gabe Sanders defeated Garrett Seaba of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in a decision to become the Vikings' first ever State champion.

Vikette basketball loses to CPU, in overtime, in Regional Final, 50-48CEDAR RAPIDS – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team (15-9) took on the Center Point-Urbana Stormin' Pointers (21-3) at Xavier High School for the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) Class 3A Region 3 Championship.  The Stormin' Pointers defeated the Vikettes 50-48 in overtime, but the Vikettes battled all the way to the end.

Durbala receives Central College (Iowa) football honor

Blade Durbala was honored for his contributions to the Central College football team this past fall at the squad’s recent awards banquet.The Dutch finished 12-1 overall, 10-0 in the regular season and 8-0 in the American Rivers, winning their 32nd conference championship. Central made its 22nd NCAA Division III playoff appearance, advancing to the national quarterfinals.
