Waaay back on inauguration day, 2025, there was one word that came to mind. As President Trump rolled back into town, and the people that would be working around him appeared and were introduced, a bit uncouth of me, but there was one word that came to mind and that was, "balls." Testosterone had returned to Washington D.C.

Now, nothing against the rest of the guys that are in Washington that just don't have that same chutzpah, but there is something to be said when it felt like, at least to me, that there wasn't a singly guy in Washington D.C. that could protect us if we needed it. Then Trump and all the men rolled into town.

I wasn't shocked when he stood up after being hit by a bullet and said, "Fight. Fight. Fight." That is Trump. I think he's said before that if someone hits you, you hit back harder, and that's what he continues to do.

I know, I know all the name-calling and etc. yet...apparently it works. Yeah, he's not your typical smooth-talking politician, but I suspect that's why he won, two or three times, depending on how you look at it. He won because he isn't a politician, and a lot of us appreciate that.

Tonight I asked myself why I wanted to watch the UFC when I've never watched it before. But I think it was because I knew that somehow it would be a patriotic, feel-good show. I also wondered how watching men get the crap beaten out of them could be patriotic, but it was.

There's something about putting an American in the ring with a guy from any other nation and the crowd cheered on our guy, as it should be. Maybe that's what my soul needed to see, that we can all unite behind our guy.

Today, as I thought about all of the things happening around us, we had veterans bingoing out in Shellsburg and throwing a party for kids in Vinton. We had another party happening in Garrison and meanwhile I hear there was supposed to be planned shrieking at the courthouse yet again.

Say what you want, but America needed the UFC fight at the White House. We needed to be reminded, with all of the military pomp and circumstance, that we really are the greatest. I'm not sure the official names of the bands/singers, but they were as good as any "professional" concert that you can find. As a musician, I appreciated their talent. They were a mariachi band, country singers, and good old patriotic singers. Joe Rogan who was emceeing the event, had said that he was not excited about going there to call the event. Then he showed up, and changed his mind, commenting how awesome it was.

You couldn't help feeling so patriotic. Between sets, there were multiple clips of our American history, highlighting America and our military. There were great shots of the monuments and footage of former presidents and some of their most notable quotes. The UFC fighters themselves reminded us how we wouldn't be here if our soldiers from 250 years ago had not done their own fighting for, what was at the time, just a dream.

Watching YouTube videos of a family in England who do a "react" to things in America, always reminds me how blessed we are. They are always blown away. They can't believe the choices that we have when it comes to everything. One YouTuber couldn't believe all of the "freedom machines" that you can buy in a farm supply store or a Walmart. They are all amazed by the size of Walmart or the parking lots. They can't believe that we all have a front yard, or a porch to just sit and relax on. They can't believe the cars and trucks that we have, the men especially want one of our pickups, but then said the roads there wouldn't even be large enough to handle one. Did you know that screens on the windows is fascinating to them? Most of their homes don't have multiple bathrooms, nor do they have a lot of room in their homes. Our homes themselves blow them away.

We are spoiled rotten in America. And we act like it. How do you raise kids that are never happy? Give them everything and don't make them work for it. That's what America has become, the spoiled rotten teenagers. We are so blessed,  yet we make up stuff to scream and yell about.

We have it made in this country. Each political side will tell you that the sky is falling if your side didn't win. And every 2,4,6 years, we believe it. We say how we're "going to leave" it if so and so wins, yet we can't make ourselves do it. I mean, Rosie O'Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres both moved and I think they might both be back. Why? Because American kicks butt in comparison to any other country.

So anyway, who knew that I'd actually like the testosterone that was on display at a UFC fight, on the White House Lawn? I expected to turn it off in the first hour, but I couldn't. I was invested. Much like my ancestors, I was rooting for our team. I didn't care what country the fighter was from; if it was ours, they had my vote.

I found it kind of funny that one of the guys who lost was pretty cocky about how he was going to win. He had his celebration dinner the night before. He laid a rose at the base of the photo of the American fighter that he was going to "knock out in the first round." Following the fight, he was probably in the hospital after getting beaten to a pulp. Now, I don't condone violence, but hey, if you're dumb enough to sign up for a beating, enjoy, I say!

So again, somehow Trump made watching men beat the living daylights out of each other, a patriotic event. A feel-good show. I don't know if it was the soldiers, the fireworks, the music, the history commercials or what it was. I'm sure it was all of it.

It was a fine way to wrap up Flag Day, celebrate the Army's birthday and yes, President Trump's 80th birthday.

Celebrate America!  We really are fortunate to have been born in this wonderful country.  We need to act like it.

All of the time.
