Obituaries Judith Ann Humphrey

Judith Ann Humphrey died peacefully in her sleep on 8-25-2026 at her home in Tempe, Arizona. She was born on August 25, 1940 to Jess and Gertrude (Beatty) Risch in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She graduated from Atkins high school in 1958. She was united in marriage to Gary Lee Humphrey on November 11, 1961. They later divorced. The couple had two children, Scott (Laura) and Timothy (Patty) Humphrey.

While working full-time, she went back to school, where she earned her registered nursing license from Kirkwood Community College. She later earned her BSN from the University of Phoenix. She moved to Arizona in 1984, where she worked as an RN until her retirement. Also moving to Arizona with her was her significant other of 42 years James Bevins. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, eating out and trips back to Iowa to visit family and friends.

Judy is survived by her significant other, both sons, her grandchildren Seth (Miranda), Jacob (Michaela), Gabriel, Ashton (Dan Stalkfleet) Humphrey and Alyssa (Sam) Jones along with her great-grandchildren Sophia, Mabel, Thea and Sterling Humphrey.

Services will be held at the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church located at 121 Main Avenue in Atkins, Iowa on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 with viewing at 9:30 AM and service at 10:00 AM. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. A lunch will follow at the church.

Memorial donations may be directed to an animal shelter or a Hospice of the donor’s choice.
