Sandra Lee (Anderson) Fisher, 77, of Belle Plaine, Iowa, was born September 3, 1948, and passed peacefully on August 3, 2026. Sandy was admitted to The Essence of Life Hospice at Compass Memorial in Marengo on Friday, July 31st, surrounded by her loved ones, where she entered our Father’s loving arms. 

Born to William Henry and Geraldine Arnette (Crosser) Anderson, Sandy was the second of six children. At just 16, she met and married the love of her life, Thomas M. Fisher Sr. They were united in marriage on June 5, 1965, and shared 46 devoted years before Tom’s passing in 2011. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. 

From their union came three children: 

· Lee Ann (Matt) Slaymaker, whose sons are Luke Thomas (Taylor) and Mason James (Liliana), and an additional son, Evan (Alexandria) Hoover of Cedar Rapids. 

· Billie Jo (David) Zhorne of Shellsburg, whose children are Zachariah (Kimberly) Zhorne of Ocean Isle, NC; Jarrin Rae-Marie Santiago of Waterloo; and Krislyn (Chad) Preston of Bourbonnais, IL. 

· Thomas Michael Fisher Jr. of Belle Plaine, whose children are Jeremy (Chelsea) Fisher of Cedar Rapids; Kandace (Billy) Fee of Belle Plaine; and Ashlie (Parker) Andersen of Waterloo. 

 

Sandy was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren, with more on the way. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two siblings (Jeffrey and Daniel Anderson), two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, niece, and a great-nephew. She is survived by three siblings she remained close to: Kathy Taylor, William (Charlie) Anderson, and Deb (Amador) Tonche, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. 

Sandy was a natural caregiver, known for her loving, gentle spirit. She “adopted many, and many adopted her,” always checking in on her people with calls, visits, and heartfelt concern. She lived a life centered on God and family. 

She worked for Funks Hybrid for many years before joining Benco Manufacturing. Sandy loved driving through the hills, spending time at Chambers Bridge, attending Weeda Auctions, playing BINGO, mowing, hunting, and fishing. 

Sandy will be deeply missed. Her family finds comfort knowing she is reunited with Tom, her parents, and our Lord and Savior. 

In honor of Sandy’s life, the family invites you to celebrate and honor her with stories of laughter and love on Saturday, September 5th, from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Belle Plaine Community Center. Lunch and desserts will be provided.  

The family would also like to personally thank Compass Memorial Hospital, The Essence of Life Hospice, Dr. Phelps, Mary, Kendra, Jeffrey Clark (not Nick, IYKYK) and many others that helped with Sandy transitioning comfortably. Without this hospital, Hospice Team and teams of Doctors, Nurses and Aids, we’d have been lost. It was THE best care our mother could have ever had in her final hours.
