Thanks to our wonderful 2026 sponsors, The Nourished Reader Project is on track to provide nearly 500 meals to children in and around La Porte City by the end of August. This project is our way of fueling young minds and bodies all summer long.
We're in the final month of offering lunches for kids ages 0-17, who can stop by the library during regular hours to pick up a meal to enjoy outside or at home. A heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors this year, as of July 21st, including Hoppy’s PRIMitive & Proper, the Council on Aging, La Porte City Insurance, Hager Insurance, La Porte City Care Initiatives, Pipho Family Dentistry, Cedar Valley Bank and Trust, Cans for Community, Witham Auto Centers, Wellpoint, the La Porte City Women’s Club, La Porte City Chamber of Commerce, and the La Porte City Lions Club.
Our Signature Picnic in the Park Series has wrapped up, with 215 people joining us to enjoy lunch and listen to some fantastic storytellers. This summer’s storytime sessions featured voices from Black Hawk County Public Health, the police department, Lions Club, La Porte City Care Initiatives, La Porte City City Council, the FFA Historical & Agricultural Museum, the Council on Aging & Union Schools, and Wellpoint. We’re already excited to invite you back next summer for more Picnics in the Park! A big thank you to the La Porte City Police Department for their support in helping us provide these lunches in the park.
