Colston Neilson recently signed to play soccer with Clarke University in Dubuque next year.

His coach at Vinton-Shellsburg, Kyle McAbee said of Colston, "Colston has been one of the hardest working kids on the team. He came in his Freshman year without playing soccer before and received the "Most Improved" award.

His Sophmore year he really stood out and he was made captain. He really started developing his skills and was awarded 1st team all-conference and our team MVP.

In his Junior year, he really grew into his leadership role as an upperclassman and helped anchor our young defense to a 7-7 record and set many defensive records as a team.

Senior year he has been the leader this team needs and is working every day to get ready for Clarke.

He has been a great soccer player for me, but he has turned into an even better young man. I'm so happy he is getting the chance to pursue his dream of playing at the next level and I have no doubt he will excel immediately. He is a great teammate and leader. This team will surely miss him next year. I'm sure the boys will make a few road trips to support him in the next chapter of his career."

Colston will be playing under the training of Coach Chad Hollmer of Clark University.

Colston is the son of Doug and Danielle Nellson.
