On Friday, area students were served a selection of food grown and produced in Iowa.

Students pictured above, from the Tilford Elementary School, enjoyed yogurt made here in Iowa and sweet potatoes grown in Kalona. The schools have worked hard to bring local produce to the schools. Partnering with Old School Produce the schools have been able to benefit from fresh produce. Each of the schools offer a salad bar to students giving them the opportunity to choose healthy vegetables every day.

Katherine Stuelke is working with the school to help with sustainability.

Vinton-Shellsburg is a recipient of a Farm to School grant from the USDA which will help in planning the program in the district.

There will be a meeting on Thursday, the 17th at 6:00 pm. at the Benton County Service Center (the former old West building) in the community room for growers and producers that might want to be part of the program.
