ClickStop Cares presented a $500.00 donation to Eileen Loan, Old School Produce Partners board member.

When the Benton County Board of Supervisors purchased Vinton’s former West Elementary School facility, the purchase included the Old School Produce gardens and grounds, formerly owned and operated by Mike and Cindy Elwick.

A group of Benton County gardeners and others approached the county supervisors with a proposal to maintain the gardens and provide the produce free of charge to schools, food pantries and other service organizations throughout the county. This new volunteer run ‘giving garden’ will operate as Old School Produce Partners.

Ongoing success requires many volunteers to plant, weed, harvest and distribute the garden’s produce. This is an excellent opportunity for area youth, individuals, businesses and other organizations to volunteer on their own or as part of a group activity.

To help make the project sustainable, some of the produce will be sold through the Old School Produce’s CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. The Old School Produce Partners have also applied for grants and are asking community members to show their support by volunteering, pledging support, in-kind donations, or making a tax-deductible donation to: Benton County Extension Service, 501 1st Avenue, Vinton, Iowa 52349 (designated for Old School Produce Partners).
