Chiropractic care has been used by professional athletes for quite some time now, and almost all professional sports teams have a chiropractor on their health team. But the benefits of chiropractic care arent just for athletes like Michael Jordan or Usain Bolt. Golfers like Tiger Woods, Rory McElroy, Jordan Spieth, and many more utilize chiropractic care to give them an edge against their competition as well. Tiger Woods once stated, Chiropractic care is as important to my training as practicing my swing. At Betterton Chiropractic Dr. Gabe and Dr. Matt have helped several golfers improve mobility, strength, and recovery from injury. So how does chiropractic adjustments help your golf game?
Chiropractors work with the spine, joints, and nervous system to restore proper mobility and function. Any misalignment in the spine can put pressure on the nerves as they exit, which can create pain, muscle weakness, and impaired function of that nerve. By correcting the misalignment, the body can heal and restore proper functioning of the nerves. In a study done in The Journal of Manipulative Physiology, volunteer Judo students received 3 chiropractic treatments with adjustments to the neck. They saw an 18% increase in grip strength after seeking chiropractic care when compared to those with no treatment in the placebo group. In another study found in The Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, active golfers (ages 18-55) were studied for their average drive distance (out of 3 drives). They received a treatment combining the use of chiropractic and stretching. Participants were evaluated for their drive distances before and after treatment during a 4-week period. One group received stretching instruction, and the other group received stretching and adjustments. The average drive difference before and after adjustments was significantly higher in the chiropractic group in comparison to the group receiving stretching instruction. The chiropractic group achieved an additional 12.9 meters (42 ft) to their average drive after four weeks, with a total distance of 228 meters. Athletic performance isnt the only benefit of chiropractic care.
If you get injured or have back pain preventing you from getting on the course, chiropractic care is great for getting you back in the game. Many studies show that chiropractic care can improve recovery time, decrease the frequency, and lower the intensity of injuries. These are just a few of the benefits chiropractic patients see. Improving nerve function aids in the healing process and allows the body to function at 100%. Regardless of your reason for seeking out chiropractic care, it can bring several health benefits to your life. Feel free to call in to Betterton Chiropractic any time with any questions you have.
