In case you have not yet heard the news.the Just Us girls have launched a HUGE event for Vinton and the surrounding areas to participate in! You may have heard of the Nationwide program One Book, One Community. We are doing our own version of that right here in Vinton and its already STARTED!

Dont worry, youre not too late to join in!

The book, available at Camerons and Natures Corner as well as the library is titled- I hope you Like this Song: an overly honest story about friendship, death, and mix tapes by Bree Housley. The goal is to have EVERYONE read the book before October 21 when we will have a COMMUNITY wide Book Discussion on it at Tilford Elementary at 7:00 pm. I love the fact that every few days I have someone come up to me and ask how we picked the book because they absolutely LOVE it! I am so excited that people love the book and the quick easy read as much as I did reading it! I am SO excited for where this whole event can go!

Throughout the book, you have Bree looking back over the years sharing memories of growing up with her best friend Shelly right here in small-town Iowa. Shelly passes away and leaves a devastated Bree trying to figure out how to live without her best friend. Her sister from Des Moines and Bree come up with an idea to live like Shelly and each week they do something that Shelly would do. I love how relatable this book is to anyone! We all have had a best friend, most everyone has had to deal with the loss of someone very close to us, it references so many places in Iowa!

We have so many great ideas to incorporate these events into Vinton! We have them all planned out and themed together by months. While we thought it might be too much for everyone in Vinton to accomplish this once a week, we have broken it down to one every two weeks. These will all be revealed on Oct. 21.

We are super excited for community groups, businesses, clubs, etc to jump into a theme that they can represent or sponsor and spread the word about what they have to offer to Vinton. How many times do you talk to someone and they say, I didnt know that was here in Vinton.

The best part of this whole process is that we have a blog and a facebook page that we want people to upload pictures of themselves doing the activity so everyone can participate! So whether you read the book, we hope you will participate.

One of the things that Bree and her sister do in the book is to act like a tourist in their own town. How many times do we have buses bring people here to tour Vinton? Yet there are SO many of US who have never toured the Courthouse, the Depo, or know the meaning behind all these beautiful new murals that are all over our town. I am looking forward to being a tourist in Vinton and find the back story of all of this.

To keep up with all the happenings you can check out Vinton Today, Justus on Facebook or the blog at justusbc.home.blog

Stop into Natures Corner or Camerons for a bookmark with all the info and more information as well as a copy of the book!

The cost of the book is $12 or $2 for an inter library loan.
