The new Chief of Police of Colorado Springs, now in charge of 700 people in his department has a Vinton connection.

Vincent Niski, the son-in-law of former Vinton resident, Dr. James H. Kruse. Vincent's wife Elizabeth is the daughter of Dr. Kruse and the niece of Franklin Kruse of Vinton. Vincent and Elizabeth have 2 sons who live in Colorada and a daughter from Nebraska.

The 30 year department veteran has been a resident of Colorado Springs since 1970 when his father was stationed at Ent Air Force Base, also the sight of the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

He worked in his father's construction business until 1989 when there was a lull in business and he joined the police department. He has served in the patrol, traffic and metro vice, narcotics and intelligence divisions.

For the past 7, he was a deputy chief and has been interim chief since February 1.

Niski has spent his entire career with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

James and Franklin Kruse are the grandsons of the Times Newspaper Founder/Publisher Henry & Olive Kruse.
