By: Shelby Wiedenfeld and Chanda Dennis FEMA Corps team Pine 10 is assisting in the recovery of Hurricane Maria. They were sent to work at the Joint Recovery Office that was recently switched to a Caribbean Area Division (CAD), due to the longevity of the mission. In the beginning weeks of their first round, they have worked with a variety of sectors through the Continuous Improvement Program (CIP). The program’s goal is to make the CAD more sustainable and efficient. Having the opportunity to work in an office full of individuals with such unique backgrounds, working towards a common goal of recovery has had a powerful impact on my FEMA Corps experience,” says Pine 10 member, Caroline. As Pine 10 continues to work within the CAD, they are constantly looking for other ways to serve Puerto Rico outside of their FEMA project. They intend to help remove debris from a smaller island of Puerto Rico as well as assist in a local animal shelter as part of their Independent Service Projects (ISPs). When not being kept busy helping communities get back on their feet, Pine 10 has had a little down time to explore the mountains of El Yunque, the beaches of Condado, and the history of Old San Juan. Pine 10 is looking forward to their last few weeks of round one. They are eager to make a lasting and positive impact on the island before they leave at the end of October.
